Just A Touch 2

Matthew 14:34-36

Throughout His ministry, Jesus was constantly on the move, traveling from place to place, doing the works of His Father. His purpose was to reach and teach as many as He could, during the time He would spend on the earth.

After revealing another dimension of His power by way of walking on water, and being acknowledged a second time as the Son of God, Jesus and those who followed Him, went to a land called Gennesaret. This fertile land was north of the shore of Galilee, and was known for producing both temperate and tropical fruits. This particular area was also brimming with people who suffered sickness and disease. So, when the men of the land recognized the man among them was Jesus, they quickly spread word to all the country, to bring all who were diseased to Jesus.

The most interesting point in this story seems to relate to the woman who had the issue of blood. I’m not 100 percent certain there’s a relation with the woman and the people of Gennesaret, but all who came to Jesus, sought only to touch the hem of His garment for their healing, so word of the woman’s story may have spread to this land as well. These sick folk had enough faith to believe, only a touch of Jesus’ clothes, would bring their healing. Mercifully, their faith was in the right place, for all who touched the hem of Jesus’ garment were made perfectly whole. Jesus didn’t perform half healings, but His manifestations were total and permanent.

Jesus healed according to the faith of those who came to Him, so all who desired healing, sought total deliverance and restoration. When you come to God, do you seek partial deliverance, or do you want God to give you a total and complete manifestation of those things your heart desires? Reach out in faith, and touch Jesus, so He can make you whole again.

All For His Glory

John 11:1-11

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to an exciting episode of, “All For His Glory”! Starring, Martha, Mary, Lazarus, Jesus, and the Disciples! I’m your host, “holyell”, and I’ll be bringing you all the details of tonight’s most fascinating scenes!

Lazarus: (Moaning in pain and agony) Mmmmm… ugghhh… Martha…. Mary….

Martha: Lazarus! Lazarus! Oh no! Mary, his condition is getting worse!

Mary: God, if you’re listening, please help our ailing brother.

Martha: If Jesus was here, He would save our brother. Mary, let’s send word to Jesus that we desperately need His help.

Mary: Alright sister, I’ll make haste to do so. Lazarus, you hold on. I’m sending a messenger to find Jesus.

Lazarus: (Moaning goes from intense, to subtle, as Lazarus drifts into sleep) mmm…hmmm…Mar..

(Messenger arrives where Jesus is, and is met by the disciples)

Messenger: Excuse me. Pardon me, but is the healer here?

Disciples: If you’re referring to Jesus, yes. He is.

Messenger: If possible, could you bid Him to come, because I have an urgent message to deliver.

Disciples: Whatever you have to tell the Master, you can say to us.

Messenger: Well, if you insist. The message reads, “Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.”

(Jesus overhears the message)

Jesus: Worry not kind sir, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of man might be glorified thereby.”

Disciples: Oh, hello Master. We were just…

Jesus: It’s ok men. Tell them I will come soon (to the messenger).

Messenger: Thank you my Lord. I shall.

Disciples: Master, what’s going on? What was that all about? Do you know who the man was referring to?

Jesus: Prepare yourselves men, for in two days, we will journey again to Judea.

Disciples: Woah woah woah! Wait a minute. My Lord, a few weeks ago the Jews there sought to stone you. It’s too dangerous to return there now. Don’t you agree?

Jesus: Gentlemen, when you know the plan of the enemy, you can wisely plan around it.

Disciples: Oooooh, right. That makes so much sense. You are beyond man’s wisdom, my Lord

Jesus: Besides, you’ll soon see and understand my purpose in doing things the way I do, then youI’ll believe.

*The disciples often questioned the methods Jesus used in certain situations, and failed to see the spiritual significance behind it, but the longer they observed His works, the more they realized how amazing the power of God was, working through His Son. Oftentimes we see things in our own lives that may appear as dead, but God allows things to be put on hold, long enough for the world to assume it’s over, so that He can then restore life and purpose to that dead situation. In times when you don’t understand God’s plan, keep the faith, and watch how He works things out in your favor.

A Servant’s Plea

2 Kings 5:1-14

If you were suffering from a condition that alienated you from people, brought shame and misery to your name, and was guaranteed to make the rest of your days on the earth a living nightmare, would you pass up the opportunity to be totally healed, if told to do something that seemed uncomfortable and unconventional? Would you allow pride and arrogance to cause you to miss out on a once in a lifetime experience, and be left to suffer in your condition forever? I can’t speak for all men, but I wouldn’t hesitate to take that offer.

Our text introduces us to a man who was captain of the Syrian army, and was deemed great and honourable. He was also a mighty man in valor, and while these accolades portray him as someone of great prestige, there was something in his life that cast a dark shadow along his path. The head of the Syrian army suffered from leprosy. According to answersingenesis.org, leprosy was considered a curse of God for many centuries, and it was often associated with sin. It did not kill, but neither did it seem to end. Instead, it lingered for years, causing the tissues to degenerate, deforming the body.

Many have thought leprosy to be a disease of the skin, but it is better classified as a disease of the nervous system, because the leprosy bacterium attacks the nerves. Its symptoms start in the skin and peripheral nervous system (outside the brain and spinal cord), then spread to other parts, such as the hands, feet, face, and earlobes. People with leprosy experience disfigurement of the skin and bones, twisting of the limbs, and curling of the fingers to form the characteristic claw hand. Facial changes include thickening of the outer ear and collapsing of the nose. The Bible isn’t clear concerning the stage of the captain’s leprosy, but I’m certain he was ready and willing to do whatever it required, to be healed from it. Or was he?

After hearing from a young maid about a prophet in Israel who could heal the captain of his condition, the king of Syria sent a letter to the king of Israel, requesting the aid of the prophet. Elisha heard the news of what was going on, then asked that the men come to him at his house. When the captain and those with him arrived at the door of Elisha’s house, the prophet sent a messenger to them saying, “Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean” (vs.10). During these times, the Jordan river wasn’t known to be the cleanest, so upon hearing the instructions of the messenger, the captain became very angry, and thought he would receive healing by the hand and words of the prophet himself. He even made mention that there were other rivers more clean than the Jordan, so why not send him to those. Had it not been for his servants, who convinced the captain that the words spoken of the prophet should be obeyed, despite full understanding of the instructions, he probably would have kept his leprosy for the rest of his days.

The captain obeyed the words of the prophet Elisha, and his flesh came again like the flesh of a child, and he was clean. You may not suffer from leprosy, or a life altering disease, but God can do more than simply physically healing; He can restore the joy of His salvation in your heart, renew your mind and spirit, strengthen your weary faith and even bring your broken focus, back to Him.

Be Healed!

1 Corinthians 12:4-11

Of the many gifts given by God, and the diversities thereof, one that is desired by most people is, the gift of healing. Sickness and pain, and all other unfortunate bodily ailments, invade the lives of many, but healing is desired by all, in order to enjoy the benefits of healthy living. I believe, no man in his right mind desires to suffer sickness, and make attempts to avoid things that cause it. But, God in His never-changing state, can still manifest divine healing to anyone He desires to bless.

The ways of the Lord are far beyond what my 3 pound brain can fathom, so I have limited understanding why so many good people suffer, and deal with sickness and disease, but I’m also fully aware, God takes no pleasure in seeing His children suffer either. There’s reason and purpose behind all things taking place in the earth, and God is fully aware of them all, but if I could operate in the gift of healing, I would make wise use of the gift, and bring change to many hurting individuals. Not only would I heal bodily hurts and pains, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual pains. Around the world, many suffer from inward pains, and other forms of hurt that come through the heart. Physical pain hurts, but emotional suffering can at times, hurt a lot more. While there are no medicines that can heal the pains of the heart, only through the love of God, and His grace and mercy, can healing of the heart truly begin.

Take time today, to pray for those who you know are suffering any kind of sickness, disease, hurt, pain, or shame, and ask God to manifest healing in their lives. We may not operate in the gift of healing, but our fervent prayers can provoke God to send His healing manifestation to those we love and care about, all over the world.

Gratitude

Luke 17:11-19

What are you thankful for? Think for a moment, of all the experiences you’ve had thus far in life; all the good, bad, and even ugly ones. After all the struggles, hard times, and suffering, how did you respond, when God finally healed you from a sickness or disease, made your crooked places straight, or kept you safe in troublesome times? What joy it brings to one’s soul, when God steps into an unfavorable situation, and makes things work for your good! Even though many of us presently suffer, and go through trials, knowing that God can, and will deliver us, should be enough to keep us moving forward. Never take for granted, the blessings of the Lord, because doing so proves what’s really in one’s heart.

God loves our praise, not only after He blesses us, but when we do it willingly, and consistently. Our text gives an example of one who was conscious enough to acknowledge the One responsible for delivering him from an extremely unfavorable situation. According to Christianity.com, Leprosy was the scourge of the ancient world. Nothing evoked more fear, more dread, or more revulsion than the sight of these walking dead. That is what a leper was called, a walking dead man. The smell of his decaying flesh would announce his coming long before the tattered scraps of his clothing would be seen, or his raspy “Unclean! Unclean!” announcement he was required to declare, could be heard. The stumbling shuffle of toeless feet, the wandering of sightless eyes and the moan of a cheek less mouth, all pointed to Leprosy, this unseen attacker that slowly destroyed human bodies, and made the individual an untouchable to society.

Can you imagine being in a position where everyone who looks at you, considers you “dead” to society? I haven’t had an experience like the ten lepers in our text, but I’m certain when Jesus came to town, they were all prepared to throw out a lifeline for an immediate miracle.

After the ten lepers heard Jesus was in town they met Him at a distance, then lifted up their voices together and cried out for mercy. What a scene that must have been! Ten men, shunned from society, yet banned together by their shared struggle, were able to come to Jesus in unity, to seek deliverance. It’s amazing how healthy church folk can’t even get along to unite in prayer, let alone seek God for a miracle. But, these men were tired of their situation, and desired to be healed of their horrible disease.

Jesus, spoke a word, the men obeyed, and were instantly healed. Wow! Of all the ten lepers who were healed, only one returned to give Jesus an “I Can’t Believe What Just Happened Praise”! Why didn’t all the men return to thank Jesus for doing something in their lives that no one else could have done? That one, humble Samaritan, one who was considered a half-breed, and shunned by other nations, was grateful for his life-changing experience, and would not take another step forward, until he gave thanks to Jesus. How will you respond when God finally delivers you?

Why Pray?

Luke 23:9-15

Why pray, when it seems like God isn’t listening? Why pray, when the world continues to deteriorate, before our very eyes? Why pray, when the enemy works diligently, to defame the reputation of the church, and those who were once strong in the faith, have taken sides with that wicked one? Why pray, when those we love battle for years with sickness and pain, never seeming to get better? Why pray, when our family, friends, and others suffer untimely deaths, regardless of our fervent petitions? Why pray, when evil, vile, and corrupt men continue to thrive, and live successful lives, while the members of Christ’s body struggle to live from paycheck to paycheck? Why pray, when social injustice, “systemic racism”, and all other forms of unethical treatment toward minorities, continues to reign in lands with “organized governments”? What’s the point of praying, when bad things continue to happen to good people? Well, I’d like to pass the mic to a great friend of mine, and allow Him a moment to share His thoughts on the aforementioned questions…

…”Why did I choose to leave Heaven, to come down to the earth? Why did I give up riches, royalty, position, and authority, in order to take on the form of a created, lower being? Why did I willingly endure hurt, shame, lies, abuse, threatenings, beatings, slander, hate, injustice, ridicule, being misunderstood, despised, abhorred, detested, loathed, scolded, battered, spit on, pierced in the side, whipped, and torture beyond belief, when I held the power to instantly vanquish all who rejected me? Why did I suffer, and lay down my life, so that those same men who disfigured my mortal body, could one day be forgiven, and receive the gift of salvation?” Okay Jesus, I’ll take it from here. Whew!

Have you considered lately, how intense the suffering of Jesus actually was, or have you read all the things the apostle Paul endured, while still writing books of the Bible? Life is tough, I won’t deny that, but we pray to God to acknowledge that He holds all power in Heaven, and in earth, and while He can step in and right all the wrongs in the earth, He must allow His will to be done. Sin caused nothing but chaos and destruction in the earth, but God will soon rectify all wrong, then purify His people for all eternity. We may have to suffer a while in this life, but don’t allow your struggles, to keep you from communicating with God. Our Father knows, and sees all that’s going on, but we should continue to pray that His will be done, even in times when we don’t understand what it actually is.

We live this life for purpose and reason, but not too long, for only a season.

The prayer of faith is powerful

James 5:13-18

There are many labels being used today by which individuals are identified with godliness, including Christian, Believer, Saint, Disciple, Child of God, and others. Despite what name you claim, the evidence of a godly life is revealed in how one lives on a consistent basis. Following after Christ is the only way anyone will be granted access into God’s eternal kingdom, but walking in His footsteps will also present us with challenging situations, that will require the right antidote to overcome. All who claim to be born-again, through Christ Jesus, are still susceptible to sin, sickness, disease, sorrow, and many things associated with this fallen world, but there is a way for the children of God to combat what the enemy uses, to try and hinder their physical, mental, and spiritual health.

Prayer, by far, is the most powerful way to turn around the negative circumstances caused by satan, and make them positive. When we pray, in faith, we are in essence acknowledging that we believe in the power of God to heal, deliver, and set us free from anything that comes against us. Unfortunately, there are many who allow their situations and circumstances to overshadow what God can do for them. While it’s true, sickness, debt, and other things can affect us to the point our emotions become unstable, God remains the same. His love never ends, power never runs out, mercy is everlasting, and truth endures through all generations!

The devil knows full well how powerful, and compassionate God is, and he tries endlessly to change the believer’s perception of those truths, but through intense and passionate prayer, the fiery darts of the enemy will miss their target every time. Pray always, and trust God to answer, according to His timing.

I am the resurrection and the life

John 11:17-27

Reading the Bible, can at times, be more entertaining than watching a Hollywood film. Jesus was, and is the Master teacher, Messiah, and Son of the living God, but His disciples didn’t fully grasp His concepts of power and redemption too well, until after His death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus and His disciples had fled from Judea in the previous chapter, because the Jews attempted to stone Him for apparently speaking blasphemy. They felt that Jesus being a man, was in error for considering Himself God. Jesus kindly corrected them with their own laws, then fled the scene, because the wicked Jews ignored the truth, in favor of their evil motives.

While settling in with His disciples beyond Jordan, a messenger sent by Mary and Martha brought word to Jesus that His friend Lazarus, whom He loved, was sick. The average person who hears news of a sick friend would immediately make an attempt to visit, or contact them in some way, but Jesus played things a little different from ordinary folk. Rather than simply pack His bags and hurry toward Lazarus, Jesus decided to wait a few more days, not out of neglect, but to allow more time to pass so He could demonstrate His love and power to a greater degree. Some may consider Jesus a show-off, but He was far from that. The world He lived in was wicked, and full of evil, and they needed to see a real power that could not only rival sin, but could put it away forever.

After breaking the news to His disciples, Jesus prepared to go and visit His friends Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, but the disciples reminded Him how a few weeks before, the Jews sought to kill Him. Jesus explained to them that He had everything under control, and that Lazarus was only sleeping, and He would go to wake him up. The disciples weren’t tuned in too well in the Spirit, as they assumed Lazarus was literally sleeping, and that he would be alright. Here’s another moment where Jesus shook His head at the disciples and told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead” (vs.14). Going back to Bethany exposed Jesus to possible death, but He and His disciples set off to show men the power the comes from the God of Heaven, and earth.

As Jesus neared the town where His friends were, Martha heard, and ran to meet Him. No doubt in tears, Martha told Jesus that if He had been there, Lazarus would not have died. While this may have been true, what more of a miracle would it be to raise a man from the dead, than to heal him of a sickness. Jesus already knew that His plan was to raise Lazarus from the dead, because He made sure not to come until four days had passed. Men were considered definitely dead after three days in the grave, so adding an extra day made Lazarus’ death a bit more certain. Going back to the beginning of this chapter, Jesus explained the situation in its entirety, yet no one paid attention, because everyone allowed their emotions to overshadow everything else. Jesus said in verse four, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.” God was going to allow a temporary death, so that His glory could be manifested by a resurrection. Jesus would soon face His death as well, but His resurrection would come with power, love, and redemption for all mankind.

Call and Mission

Matthew 10:1-15

Before sending them out to witness on their own, Jesus called His twelve disciples together, and bestowed divine power within them so potent, that it gave them the ability cast out demons, and heal any sickness or disease that plagued the people. Christ also gave them detailed instructions on what to pack, and what places to visit on their journey. The Good News of the Gospel was a message for all people. However, Jesus commanded the men to avoid going to the Gentile nations, and focus their attention on gathering the lost sheep of Israel first. This was a rather interesting command, because if the Gospel was for everyone, then why would Christ skip over the ones who seem to need it most? Look at it from this perspective: if you and your spouse were born-again believers, would you go out into your neighborhood and make an effort to win all the lost in your community, or would you think it wise to first begin in your own home? Jesus knew the Gentile nations would have ample time to hear the Word, but it was necessary to first gather those who were chosen as God’s holy nation, and unite them once again, into the royal family of the Almighty.

The mission the disciples would soon embrace, would not be a cakewalk. They would face persecution, rejection, and all forms of possible violence, but they were properly equipped by the Son of God to stand firm against all that would come against them. Believers today are called to win the lost, at all cost. We may not have been commissioned as the disciples were in this text, but we operate under the same Spirit that gave them the power to do amazing things. Who knows what God can and will manifest through our lives? Never underestimate what God can do through you. All He asks is that we be willing, and obedient to His Word, and He will do the rest. We live this life for purpose and reason, but not too long, for only a season. Make your life worth the living, and keep God at the forefront of your vision.
