Fully Persuaded

Romans 4:19-21

If your faith and confidence level in godliness was based on percentages, could you boldly say that yours would be an easy 100?! Do you literally trust God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength? Or, are there moments, when you doubt whether or not God will step in to help resolve some of your issues? In order for anyone to please God, they must have faith, because without it, it’s impossible to please Him. Having faith is one thing, but developing your faith to greater levels, is necessary in order to benefit from all the things God has for those who trust Him.

Oftentimes, men and women stagger at the words God spoke in Scripture, and as the children of God, we sometimes fall short of His glory, by taking our focus off God, and doing things our own way. An example of this took place in the Bible, when Abraham and Sarah decided to help God and bring forth the promise He had made to them, that they would have a child. Rather than continue to wait patiently for God’s plan to play out, Sarah presented her handmaid to her husband, in hopes she would bring for the child of promise. Contrary to their unwise plan, Abraham and Sarah were told, the child would come from their union, and not another. In due time, Abraham’s faith was rewarded, when His 90 year old wife was blessed to conceive. Although Abraham took unwise counsel from His wife, his faith in God’s promise was not weak, but strong. Abraham was fully persuaded, that what God had promised, He was also able to perform.

During times when our faith grows weary, take a moment to consider all who came before us, and the trials and tribulations they endured until their end. Learn from our pioneers of the faith, and strive to grow daily in wisdom, understanding, and faith. The more your faith grows, the more confident you’ll become in the words of Scripture.

Blessed Redemption

Galatians 1:20-24

20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.
21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;
22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:
23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.
24 And they glorified God in me.

Everyone deserves a second chance in life, even the man who once persecuted God’s people without hesitation. How do you handle those who were once unruly, but God turned them for good? Do you hold grudges against people whom you once despised, or do you offer a helping hand, to assist them on the path of holy and righteous living?

“If God Be For Us…”

Romans 8:31-39

Without God, we are defeated, but with God, we are more than conquerors! Without God, we are separated from Christ, but with God, we are inseparable from Christ! Without God, all who come against us can bring us harm, but with God, all who come against us have no chance! Without God, we have no Savior, but with God, the Savior was given for all! Without God, we toil and labor in vain, but with God, our acts of faith are counted as righteousness! Without God, all are condemned, but with God, all have an opportunity to be redeemed! Without God, we are left without hope and alone, but with God, Christ maketh intercession for us! Without God, we can be carried away by tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword, but with God, we are covered from all that forms against us! Without God, we live in vain, but with God, we die daily for a greater purpose!

Divine Connection

Acts 8:26-35

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9). God cares for all men, whether they do evil, or good. In fact, one of God’s most amazing and unappreciated characteristics is, His patience. Oftentimes, men take for granted, the time God grants them in the earth, but soon that time will expire.

King Solomon helps us understand, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” (Prov. 15:3). God wants all men to submit themselves to His will and authority, so they can reap the best benefits of this life, and the next. Unfortunately, the world has become so corrupt to the point men, women, and children alike, are dying at unfathomable rates. Many pass away too soon, before they can even begin to enjoy the benefits that come with living a saved life. God the Father sees all, knows all, and desires that all come to Him, before their time is cut short. For this reason, the Spirit of God works through those who are attuned to His will, and joins them with others who diligently seek the truth of God’s Word. God is good, and His mercy endures forever, so all who have a strong desire to known Him, will indeed discover the depths of His unparalleled love, grace, and mercy.

Our text introduces a certain man; one who was of great authority, and served under queen Candace of the Ethiopians, who had come to Jerusalem to worship. While it may seem strange for an Ethiopian eunuch to seek worship in Jerusalem, tradition tells that king Solomon taught his religion to the queen of Sheba, who established it among her people. So it was only right for the man to travel to give honor to the God of the great king Solomon. As the man sat in his chariot, he struggled to understand the readings of the prophet Isaiah. It’s evident he had a desire for godliness, but couldn’t grasp its concepts. This was the perfect opportunity for God to connect a man seeking the truth, with another who understood and lived the truth.

During this time, persecution of the church had elevated to astounding rates (spearheaded by Saul, who had recently ordered the death of Stephen), yet the apostles and disciples of Christ continued to branch out to spread the Gospel to different lands. While watching the Ethiopian man from Heaven, struggling to understand the Word, God sent an angel to Philip, instructing him to get up, and go to Gaza. Not knowing the reason for the urgent request, Philip arose and did as he was instructed. When he arrived, the Spirit told Philip to join himself to the same chariot which the Ethiopian man sat upon. I’m certain God was smiling, as He observed the willing and obedient servant, approaching the chariot of someone seeking to know and abide by the truth. After Philip literally ran to meet the man, the Bible says, “Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.” (vs. 35).

God knows what we have need of, and He always has someone in place, to assist in whatever way possible. The Ethiopian man may have left his estate with questions, but I’m certain he arrived back home with more than he expected. Trust God to help you find answers to questions you may have concerning His Word, or life in general. When you seek God with all your heart, He’ll always send someone to help you gain a better understanding of those hard things you are unable to grasp.

Spirit, Soul, Body

2 Corinthians 13:11-13; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-28

Knowing that this world will soon experience a prophesied, yet abrupt end, why can’t we live and enjoy life any way we desire? If our bodies and minds will be made new in the newly renovated Heaven and earth, shouldn’t men be allowed to “do as they wilt” without judgment, until Christ returns? While men have the liberty to live according to their own wills and desires, living contrary to the holy God of Heaven comes with undesirable consequences. What the world considers fun or entertaining, God sees as vanity. Men find pleasure in self fulfillment, and accomplishing goals that have no eternal value, while God desires that we focus more on the fact that this world will soon fade away. For this reason, it’s wise to invest our time in doing things to help ourselves, and others solidify a safe and profitable forever after.

The biggest problem facing not only the world, but the church as well are, distractions. There are so many things that turn our attention away from what’s important to God. Oftentimes, we find our eyes glued to our cell phones or televisions so long, until hours pass by that could have been spent studying the Word, edifying a brother or sister, or spending time with an elderly person. Our current society is heavily centered around pride and self fulfillment, while God sees life from a different perspective.

Although we will leave these earthly bodies for new ones, we are still responsible for using them to bring glory to the name of the Lord. “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ” (Col 3:23-24). The reason many in the church are drawn away from the things of God, and use their gifts and abilities for vain purposes is, they are more concerned with pleasing the men, rather than the God who created all things. When we place a man’s expectation of us over God’s, we will no doubt find ourselves far from God’s purpose for our lives. Whether we’re subject to a boss, professor, or even a ministry, no one’s agenda takes precedence over the Lord’s.

God created mankind in His image, and after His likeness, and He expects for us to imitate the character His Son portrayed in the earth. Rather then hate, we are to love. When people come against us with false accusations and lies, we’re to show them kindness. Even in times when we’re being persecuted, we are to pray for our persecutors, and desire that they commit their hearts to God. All we do in this earth should be aligned with righteousness and soul-winning, so God deserves all of you. It’s obvious we have to work, eat, rest, and do the normal human things, but at the end of each and every day, investing in the kingdom of God is the only way to make your life meaningful and purposeful while you yet live.

Many have passed away from the sickness caused by the lingering pandemic, and others have died from tragic events, but while you still have the breath of life flowing through your body, consider your ways, and seek first the kingdom of God the rest of your days.

Anguish And Agony

Luke 22:39-46

As Jesus neared the end of His ministry, the thoughts that clouded His mind caused Him much anguish and agony. How could the Son of the living God reach a point where His emotions were as those of normal men, and He experienced mental struggles? Jesus was God in the flesh, so how could He feel what normal people feel, while being all God, and all man? Being all God, Jesus understood His place in the holy trinity, and carried out His role as the Father commanded. The Son of God indeed was directly connected to the source of the greatest power that ever existed, but the human nature He was housed in felt all things just as man does. The writer of the book of Hebrews wrote, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Heb. 4:15). In other words, Jesus experienced life on earth as any human would, except He did not give in to temptation, nor sin.

As He went to the mount of Olives to pray, Jesus held in His mind literally all He had experienced, and all He would soon face. The thoughts of torture, beatings, persecution, and other wicked schemes against Him, were all playing in His mind, as He knelt to pray. The Bible mentions He was in agony, then began to pray more earnestly.  Luke continues to mention how the sweat that fell from Jesus was as great drops of blood. My mercy! I often allow myself to go into a “sunken place” when I’ve sinned, or fallen into temptation, because I realize that I not only bring harm and shame to myself and loved ones, but most importantly to God. But, Jesus did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong, yet He prepared His mind and body to take on all the sins of the mankind, along with unprecedented physical and mental abuse.

Although Jesus was empowered with God’s characteristics and abilities, He willingly restrained Himself, so that you and I could have a better future in the life to come. Do you agonize over past mistakes or errors you could have avoided with consistent prayer and godly meditation, or are you preparing yourself to endure the suffering that comes with proclaiming the truth of God’s Word, and the attacks that come from covering and protecting those you love? Most of the suffering we experience comes by our own doing, but the suffering that follows a godly lifestyle, will be rewarded by the Father in this life, and the next. “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” (vs. 42).

“Pray that ye enter not into temptation.” – Jesus

Wanted: Christians

Acts 12:5-11

When Jesus had finally left the earth, His disciples had set their focus on carrying out His commands without hesitation. The great apostles began establishing the foundations of the first church, and made certain that the message of the Gospel was freely given to the Gentile nations as well. The church had all things in common, and when situations became a bit tense, effective prayer and communication easily resolved all issues.

The early church began to strive and thrive in the name of the Lord, but their zeal for God came at great cost. During the development of the church, not everyone was pleased to see it prosper. Certain of the synagogues were opposed to the teaching of the Gospel, for reasons centered around pride and ignorance, and the best way these men thought to hurt the church was to make an examples of its leaders. Stephen, an outstanding leader, teacher, and full of wisdom and the Holy Ghost, was the first to be martyred amongst the brethren. Soon after this tragic event, persecution against the church, which began in Jerusalem, caused the people to scatter abroad, throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria. The apostles remained in Jerusalem, and made great lamentation over Stephen’s death.

Following Saul’s conversion and acceptance of God’s will for his life, the message of the Gospel was still being preached by the apostles, but after king Herod decided to add his name to the church oppression party, the apostles were listed at the top of his wanted list. In order to please the Jews, king Herod decided to first kill James, the brother of John. The disciples were obviously aware that the days Jesus had spoken of, were now being lived, and they prepared themselves to face what was to come.

Following the death of James, the wicked king sought to kill Peter next, so they arrested him, threw him in prison, and waited to bring him before the people to be executed. The church in America today, complains that times are hard for them, but they’ve never faced persecution as the disciples did. While in prison, Peter being placed between two soldiers, fell asleep. How could one sleep, knowing they would soon be executed? The Bible mentions that prayer was made without ceasing of the church that God deliver Peter, and He did! The same night Peter was asleep, an angel appeared, released him of the chains that bound him, then led him safely away from the prison. Peter thought he was seeing a vision, and didn’t realize until after his escape, he was set free. Wow! The Bible explains it like this, “And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.” (vs. 11). Jesus had told Peter before, how he would die, but this was not his time.

Persecution is inevitable for the children of God, and we must be prepared to stand strong when that time comes. The devil hates God, and those who follow Him because we remind him of what he once had, and lost; fellowship and unity with the Father. Bible times are long gone, and the men who left us the example to follow already fulfilled their purpose, but now we must live ours, and hope to be as bold and firm as the men of old were.

The Comforter

Isaiah 40:1-5

How can one find peace, in the midst of a storm? Where do you go for direction, when wandering aimlessly through the wilderness of life? Who can give comfort, in situations that are uncomfortable? This present year is nearing its end, and many have struggled to crawl out of valleys, climb over mountains, and even stand firm during stormy seasons, since the year began, and of all the things lacking in life, trouble is far from being one of them. But, regardless of how tough this year has been, we who have made it this far, can have hope that God will reward us for our perseverance. Although the prophecy in this text was directed toward the people of Judah, the power of God continues to work in favor of those who love Him, and keep His commandments. God promised to bless those who obey Him, and knowing this should bring great joy to the believer, because “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it” (Proverbs 10:22). It is indeed hard, at times, to find comfort in the midst of suffering, but the love that comes from the Father, is strong enough to penetrate through our situation, and give us peace, as we go through whatever comes against us. Be strong, and trust in the power of the Lord, because if He was loving enough to deliver Judah from years of oppression and persecution, He’ll freely carry us safely out of this trying year, and into a promising new one.

Exodus 1:15-22

Little Saint: Oh my wee heart, aches so bad, but I know I can make it. I’ll keep walking by faith.

Life: DEATH OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

Life: JOB TERMINATION!

Little Saint: NOOOO, I needed that job to consistently make ends meet, and to support the ministry, but I know I can make it. I’ll keep walking by faith.

Life: PERSECUTION!

Little Saint: O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt…but I know I can make it. I’ll keep walking by faith.

*Life is indeed hard, not only for the Saints, but for unbelievers also. The difference is, those who suffer for the sake of righteousness, will receive eternal rewards from the Father, while those who suffer while in sin, can only receive the second death. God wishes that all men come to repentance, and desires for no one to die in their sins. The best way the Saints can prove their profession to godliness is, to walk by faith, despite all obstacles that come to block their path. It’s unfortunate that believers will suffer in this life, but our suffering is only for a season. In His perfect timing, God will restore the joy of His salvation to all Saints, and He will give them strength to endure, and continue fighting the good fight.
