Luke 2:25-35
Many who live today, often plan to do, or see something great before they die. I’ve heard stories of some, who yearned to travel the world, climb mountains, or meet and greet their favorite celebrity before they left the earth. Typically, those who aren’t mature in the wisdom and knowledge of God, would tend to seek pleasure from things of this world, but when you know the truth of the Scriptures, and have a good understanding of the life to come, I’m apt to believe that you’d prefer more to see the amazing things that await us in the next life, as opposed to all the “joys” of this world, that will soon be done away with.
In our text, a man named Simeon, lived with great anticipation of seeing Jesus with his very eyes. The Bible declares that Simeon was just and devout, and was admonished by the Holy Ghost that was upon him, that he would not see death, until he saw the Lord’s Christ. What a word! Can you imagine if something like that happened today? If God spoke to you, through His Spirit, and said that you won’t see death, until you see all your children grow up and receive salvation, then become great men and women, and also see their children follow after the same manner. That would make me a glad grandpappy!
This world is corrupt, and full of evil. For this reason, many are unable to recognize and desire the goodness of the Lord. This is why it’s imperative for the body of Christ to live in such a way, that our actions imitate those of Christ. When we seek first God’s kingdom, He’ll add to our lives, those things we have need of, but desiring things of this perverse world only causes our Father to bow His head in shame.
Show the world how awesome God is through your living, and strive to keep your on focus on what matters to Him. There are many beautiful and wonderful things to see and experience in this world, but remember, this earth will soon be destroyed, so continue to set your affections on things above. Live, to please God, and make soul-winning a priority in your life.
Keep your chin up… it’s easier to see Heaven that way,
Ell
