The Wrath Of God!

Romans 1:18-23

As evil men continue to take part in promoting satan’s wicked campaign throughout the earth, God in His wrath, stands in position, ready to judge and subdue all who are ungodly and unrighteous.

Men were created good, and free from all wickedness, but when the serpent deceived Eve (and Adam took part), the relationship between God and man has never been the same. Fortunately, for all who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, God will save them in the end, but to those who remain unrighteous, immoral, and in sin, their eternity will be spent in an everlasting fire, created for the devil and his angels.

There are some who believe God is unfair, and should not be so hard on wicked men, but the God of Heaven and earth is just. In fact, God is super patient, and allows people ample time and opportunity to turn away from sin, and come to Him. The Bible reads it this way, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 KJV).

God is love, and has expressed His multifaceted compassion since the beginning of creation. The God of creation, desires not that any of His wonderful human beings be lost to eternal damnation, nor face His wrath. For this reason, He offers the free gift of salvation daily, so that anyone seeking the right path, can be saved from this present world of corruption.

The Ultimate Fate

Matthew 8:28-34

In the battle of good versus evil, there’s an ultimate fate for those who choose the path of righteousness, and another for all who reject salvation through Christ Jesus. The Bible plainly states, all who “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, shalt be saved. What will men be saved from? Revelation 21:8 records it this way, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” The salvation that comes through Christ, will save men from the second death. It’s appointed for man to physically die once, then face judgment with God, but those who refused to accept Jesus as their Savior on earth, will unfortunately experience a spiritual death also.

The assurance for the children of God rests in the fact that the blood of Jesus washed away their sins, and redeemed those who believe, by faith, to God the Father. The ultimate fate for God’s people is an eternity of habitation in the new heaven and earth. In addition, the church can stand firm on the fact that their faith in God, and obedience to His Word will secure their reservation in His eternal kingdom. But, for those who rebel, the second death awaits their souls.

There are many who disbelieve in heaven and hell, but even devils know their ultimate fate. In our text, the men possessed with devils, who abided in tombs, met Jesus and cried out saying “What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? Art thou come hither to torment us before the time?” It’s very interesting the devils mentioned, “before the time”. The Bible mentions in Revelation, at the end of the world, satan and his angels will be thrown in the lake of fire. So, when the devils asked this question to Jesus, it proved they were fully aware of their inevitable end. Do you know where your final destination will be?

Obey And Live… Or Not

Jeremiah 37, 38, 39

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to an exciting episode of, “Obey And Live… Or Not?” Starring, Jeremiah the prophet, King Zedekiah, the Wicked Princes, and Ebedmelech the Ethiopian Eunuch! I’m your host, “holyell”, and I’ll be bringing you all the details of tonight’s most fascinating scenes!

*Being a prophet in Bible times was always associated with unjust treatment from those who refused to accept the truth of God’s words, spoken by the prophet. In our text, the prophet Jeremiah had lived, and served under two wicked kings, but was now given a measure of respect, from king Zedekiah. Unfortunately, those who were close to this king, refused to accept and hearken to the prophecies God spoke through Jeremiah, and chose to make life hard for the prophet.

(During the reign of king Zedekiah, the land of Judah was was attacked by the Chaldeans, who’s onslaught was hindered for a moment, after the people of God received temporary assistance from Pharaoh Hophra and his army.)

King Zedekiah: Messengers, come forth! I need you go unto the prophet Jeremiah, and request that he send prayers unto the LORD our God for us.

(Jeremiah arrives before the king.)

Jeremiah: Oh great king, may thy reign be forever. The word of the Lord came unto me saying, “Pharoah’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land, and the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire. Thus saith LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.”

(During the commotion and dispersal after battle, Jeremiah then left Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself from the people.)

Captain of the Ward: (Sees Jeremiah approaching.) Halt! Who goes there? Are you with the Chaldeans, those who fought against God’s people?

Jeremiah: Absolutely not! That is false.

Captain of the Ward: I don’t believe you. Come with me.

(Jeremiah is taken before the princes.)

Wicked Princes: Who is this whom you bring before us?

Captain of the Ward: Some guy who got lost, but I’m certain he’s of the Chaldeans.

Wicked Princes: Is that so? Let’s beat him, then throw him in prison.

(The innocent prophet remained in prison many days.)

(King Zedekiah heard Jeremiah was in prison, and sent men to recover him.)

King Zedekiah: Jeremiah, prophet of the Lord, I am sorry for what happened to you.

Jeremiah: …

King Zedekiah: By the way, don’t mention this to anyone, but “Is there any word from the Lord?”

Jeremiah: “There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

King Zedekiah: Oh my, geesh… I was not expecting to hear that again…sigh

Jeremiah: My king, what did I do to deserve all this?

King Zedekiah: What do you mean?

Jeremiah: Have I offended you, your servants, or your people? Why did you allow them to put me in prison? Where are all those prophets who prophesied unto you that the king of Babylon will not come against you, nor this land? Yet, I still stand before you with words from the Lord.

(Rather than release Jeremiah from prison altogether, king Zedekiah moved him to the court of the prison, no doubt to please the people.)

Wicked Princes: Oh king, we have heard the words spoken by Jeremiah, and we have concluded he deserves to be put to death! This man seeks not the welfare of the people, but to hurt them by weakening their hope with his words.

King Zedekiah: This is out of my hands, because there’s nothing I can do against your accusations.

(Jeremiah was cast into another prison, or dungeon, where there was no water.)

*Isn’t it strange, how when you do exactly what God tells you, things tend to get worse, before they get better?

Ebedmelech the Ethiopian Eunuch: Hey men, what’s going on? Why all the commotion and uproar?

Fellow Eunuch: Haven’t you heard the news? The prophet Jeremiah was left to die in the dungeon.

Ebedmelech the Ethiopian Eunuch: What?! Why?! Jeremiah is a true prophet of the LORD our God!

(The eunuch runs to the king, to plea for Jeremiah’s release.)

Ebedmelech the Ethiopian Eunuch: “My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.”

*Isn’t it good to have someone in your life, who knows your walk with God is real, and will fight to keep you protected from wicked men?

King Zedekiah: Alright, take 30 men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies.

(Jeremiah is brought before the king, and again he inquires a word from the Lord.)

King Zedekiah: Jeremiah, I want to ask you something, but you must tell me the truth, and leave nothing out.

Jeremiah: If I tell you, will you not put me to death?

King Zedekiah: You have my word, I will not put you to death. Now, tell me what you heard from the Lord.

Jeremiah: If you surrender unto the king of Babylon’s princes, then your soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire, and you and your household shall live. But, if you refuse, the Chaldeans will burn this city, and you will not escape them. Obey the voice of the Lord, and it shall be well with you.

*Sounded simple enough, right? Well, king Zedekiah refused to listen to the words of the Lord and he and his household suffered a gruesome end. Although the prophet Jeremiah endured persecution for simply speaking the truth of God’s Word, he was spared by king Nebuchadnezzar, who offered the prophet of God protection and safety. Not only was Jeremiah spared, but God looked on Ebedmelech the Ethiopian Eunuch, and blessed him and his house, for looking after Jeremiah in his time of need.

*Suffering for the sake of the Gospel is hard sometimes, even to the point where death seems near, but God will always send someone to aid us on our journey, and help others see the light of God that shines within us. God will protect us, even when others refuse to accept us.

Hide And Seek

1 Kings 19

There’s something about Heaven, or more specifically, the realm of the spirit, that I am unable to fathom. Throughout the Scriptures, there are many instances where a spiritual manifestation superceded natural law and order. For example, Jesus turned water into wine from grapes that never existed. How do you explain that in scientific terms? Another example took place when the angel of the Lord helped Peter escape from prison, without using a key to open the cell, nor any gadgets the Beagle Boys used in the Duck Tales cartoons. It’s evident, the spirit realm operates on an entirely different playing field than the natural, and for this reason, men should take heed to developing their understanding of God’s Word, so that they’ll be able to navigate through the earth the way God intended them to.

That brief introduction was intended to continue from where we left off on the previous lesson, as the prophet Elijah was running and hiding from queen Jezebel, who sought to take his life. For an entire day, Elijah had run as far as he could, then retired into a wilderness area, where he rested under a juniper tree. It’s apparent, Elijah was still shaken in faith from the threat of the queen, because he begin to request that God take his life, as he felt he was no better than his fathers before him. This was a very intense moment, because Elijah trusted in God, and His amazing power, but the fear of one woman turned the bold lion, into a cowardly chicken.

So, Elijah fell asleep in the wilderness, undoubtedly neglecting to care for his now weak and famished body, but God had not forgotten His servant, and sent an angel to minister unto him. The angel had prepared a meal for the prophet, then woke him up to eat. It would be super awesome to enjoy a meal prepared by an angel, don’t you agree? What’s even more amazing is, the second meal the angel prepared for Elijah gave him strength that lasted 40 days and nights. Wowzer! One angelic cuisine was packed with enough nutrients and essentials to give a man strength for over a month! I can only imagine what the benefits a full heavenly meal would provide. I tell ya, trying to understand the realm of the spirit gives me headaches sometimes, but I love it!

After his long journey, Elijah went into a cave, and lodged there, until the voice of the Lord was heard. God said, “Elijah, what are you doing in here?” (Ell’s translation). The prophet responded, “I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.” There’s no doubt the words Elijah spoke were truth, but God needed a moment to whip His servant back into spiritual shape. God then commanded Elijah to go and stand upon the mountain, to meet Him there. The mighty and matchless God made a grand entrance on the mountain, the likes of which Hollywood stars, athletes, or even famous wrestlers pale in comparison to. Before the Lord arrived, a great and strong wind passed through, literally tearing down the mountains, and breaking the rocks in pieces. After the winds had passed, an earthquake shook the very foundations of the land. If that wasn’t enough to get Elijah’s blood pumping, a great fire followed after the earthquake, and then the voice of the Lord began to speak. Again, God asked Elijah, “What are you doing here?”, and he delivered the same response. While Elijah ran to hide himself, God sought him out to reveal another plan he was to partake in.

In times when we are afraid to step out on faith, following a possible failure, God is always waiting to give us new strength to take on new tasks ahead. The work of the Christian is perpetual, and never ends, so rather than hide and cower over past failures, we should be mindful to take breaks, regain our strength, then step back onto the battlefield. God will always equip us with what we need to face every challenge ahead of us, despite how often we belittle ourselves.

Who Am I?

Exodus 3:1-12

God created all men special, and not one person deserves more esteem than another. From the least of mankind, to the greatest, all people were made fearfully and wonderfully by God, and are capable of doing amazing things through His power. Oftentimes, when in the presence of men and women who are considered famous or popular by worldly standards, some can become nervous, and feel unworthy to be amongst them. But, no matter who the world promotes as great, no man is greater than the almighty God.

While leading his father-in-law’s flock through a desert, Moses was unaware of the great responsibility that was moments away. As he approached Mount Horeb, the angel of the Lord appeared in a flame of fire, in the midst of a bush. This definitely caught Moses’ attention, and he turned to get a closer look. But, before he could take another step, God called unto him, and made known that he was on holy ground, and to remove his shoes. During this time, the children of Israel were being severely oppressed by the Egyptians, and God would not allow it to continue any longer. From the fiery bush, God told Moses He would send him unto Pharoah, so that he could bring His people out of Egypt. Humility is always revealed in the hearts of those who love God, and Moses proved this by asking God, “Who am I, that I should go unto Pharoah, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt” (vs.11). God assured the humble servant, He would certainly be with him as he carried out this task, and commanded him to return to the same place where he was standing, to reverence God after delivering the Israelites from the Egyptians. God knew His plan would work, and that Moses would do his part, so He wanted him to return to Mount Horeb, as he and Israel serve God from that point on.

Moses felt intimidated and unworthy to stand before the great Pharoah, but with God, he had all the confidence he needed, to do as God commanded. For every situation you face in life, whether great or small, don’t allow them to intimidate you, especially if God commanded you to go through it. God is all powerful, and He can equip you with all you need to be bold, no matter what you face in this life. Don’t let men and women shame or make you feel unworthy, because with God you are more than worthy!

Undefiled

Daniel 1:8-17

Throughout life, we often feel as though God doesn’t notice our suffering, and we wonder whether or not He actually hears our prayers. As believers, we face continual persecution for our faith, men slander and defile our good reputations, and the world mocks us for what we believe. Some even go so far as to inflict physical pain on those who claim the name of Christ. But, in those moments when we feel as though God has forgotten about us, we should stop and read about the struggles men of God dealt with in Scripture.

One example of men who suffered for righteousness sake, can be found in our text. Because of their continual disobedience, God allowed Israel to be taken into captivity by Babylon. While being held captive, the king of Babylon called for children from Israel, who were without blemish, well favored, skilled in all wisdom, cunning in knowledge and understanding, and were able to learn their language. Those who were selected included Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. The king even decided to change the names of the young men, as a sign of placing them under subjection. It’s one thing to be abducted against your will, and it’s even worse when you are given another name, then forced to learn pagan customs.

To make a long story short, Daniel and his brethren went against the kings commands, in order to obey the commands of God, and his three friends were forced to face the death penalty. God delivered the young men from the fiery furnace, and proved that no matter what comes against the children of God, if they remain faithful, He will deliver them with a mighty hand.

It matters not what you’re going through in life, because if you stay true to God, and obey His words over man’s, He’ll always come through for you, and your haters will have front row seats to witness it.

With One Accord

Acts 2:1-12

One of the most iconic moments in Bible history was, the day of Pentecost, recorded in the book of Acts. When the day of Pentecost was “fully come”, this was referencing the fiftieth day from the waving of the sheaf of the first-fruits. According to the book of Leviticus, Pentecost was one of the original eight feasts of the Lord, or holy convocations, which were to be proclaimed in their appropriate season. God appointed times for His people to gather and offer sacrifices and praises for all that He had done for them. This was important to keep the minds of the people focused on the source of their peace, prosperity, and protection.

Our text picks up a short while after the first business meeting of the church, and the election of the replacement disciple (Matthias). During this gathering of about 120 men, the Bible mentions all these men were in one place, and with one accord. In other words, none of the men gathered were lukewarm, shady, doubtful, unconcerned, nor uninterested in God’s affairs. Instead, they were all united in faith, love, and prayer. Can you pause for a moment, and imagine if this was the state of the church today. If every man and woman, who gathers together in the name of the Lord, were always sharing the same mind, will, and motivations, how do you think the earth would look today? Well, we have an absolutely amazing experience that takes place in the verses of our text.

Being of the same mind, and gathered together in unity, provoked the almighty God, to literally invade the space where the men were, and fill them with His Spirit, while unlocking the ability for them to speak a language they never spoke. This was done, so that all the nations of the earth that would also come to witness God’s power, could be ministered to in their native tongue. God knew, many would come together to join the ever-growing church, so He (in His infinite wisdom), was fully aware that those whom He called, needed to capable of reaching all who would show up. Unlike men, who think mostly in “the now”, God sees the end of a thing, and knows how to prepare His people to handle it, before it manifests.

Although the modern church seems to have lost its once renowned potency and effectiveness in the earth, the power of God is still readily available, to invade the lives of those who will gather together in one mind, one heart, and one Spirit. Never underestimate the power of unity, because doing so could prohibit you from reaching your full potential in God.

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold… don’t become one of them.

ATTEN-TION!

Luke 6:20-26

Fret not, because of those who appear to be living life a little (or a lot) better than you. Worry not, about men who seemingly have the upper hand concerning matters of finances and other resources. Mind not those things which the world considers as “fancy”, or “flashy”. Don’t lose heart, when your life is full of sadness and pain, while those around you are filled with laughter. Stand strong, even when men hate you, and literally defame your good name. Walk with your head held high, in the midst of snakes, fakes, and ravenous wolves. Be strong, and very courageous, while facing trials and temptations. Get excited, in those moments when you get rejected from the crowd, and appear to be left all alone. While the world makes attempts to keep you in the fog negativity, God will give you strength to endure all of their ploys and distractions. Not only will God keep you in perfect peace during hard times, but He will reward you greatly in Heaven.

Those who seem to be living the “good life” here on the earth, and willfully reject God, will only enjoy good until their death. After this life, comes the judgment, and every man and woman who rejected God, will mourn and weep throughout all eternity, as they spend their next life in that horrible, bottomless pit.

Saints, be encouraged, and continue fighting the good fight. The battle belongs to God, and He’s already won the victory! Soon, and very soon, all our troubles, worries, and struggles will be over, but until then… fight well!

Ready Or Not, Here He Comes!

Matthew 25:1-13

🎵🎶 Be ready when He comes. Be ready when He comes. Be ready when He comes again, He’s coming again so soon. Don’t let Him catch you with your work undone. Don’t let Him catch you with your work undone. Don’t let Him catch you with your work undone, He’s coming again so soon 🎶🎵.

Soon, and very soon, Christ will return to this earth, and His coming will fulfill the prophecy that reads, “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they [also] which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.” (Rev.1:7). Whether you believe in God, or not, doesn’t change the fact that this world will soon be quenched in unbearable flames, then made anew with the new Heaven (Revelation 21:1). Based on this simple fact alone, one would assume all men would strive to do what’s necessary to avoid the coming judgment on the earth, while seeking to be in right standing with the Creator of all things. Unfortunately, many people reject the truth of God’s written Word, and choose to trust in the wisdom of men.

It matters not how much we prosper in material things, because all things will eventually pass away, and not one carnal thing from this earth will be transferred to the next life. Christians should maintain a steady and direct focus on living holy now, in order to live in peace for all eternity. There’s no time to waste wallowing in frivolous matters, gossiping, arguing, fussing, fighting, and bickering over senseless things. Instead, we should be grateful for life, and use every breath proclaiming the goodness of the Gospel.

Of all the things you say and do throughout a day, how much of that is centered on kingdom business? Do you truly live to please God, or are you preparing only to have security on this decaying planet? The Bible teaches us how to live, until Christ returns, so get in the Word, and stay there. Forget those things that are behind you, that only brought you hurt, pain, and shame, and look forward to the life God has prepared for you, in His eternal kingdom.

Solomon’s request

1 Kings 3:5-14

Before taking on any major task or duty, proper preparation is essential to ensuring one’s success. For example, when firefighters receive a call of a burning building, they must be certain to bring all the necessary equipment to put out the flames. It wouldn’t be wise for the firefighters to bring gallons of ice cream, or butter to dispel the flames, instead, gallons of water would be more appropriate? In another example, teachers are advised to compose lesson plans, that will prove beneficial to their student’s academic success. The right lesson plan can be the difference between a child’s future success, or failure. One thing I’ve learned in life is, “Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance”, and trusting in the Lord is the basis of all great thoughts, plans, and ideas.

Following the reign of the great king David, his son Solomon was chosen to rule in his stead. The children of Israel were a great people, not only in fame and prestige, but also in number. In Solomon’s own words, he mentioned, “And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude” (vs. 8). Leading people, in general, is no easy assignment, so imagine trying to lead millions.

King David ruled successfully, because he allowed God to guide his hand, and from his example, Solomon learned the importance of submission to God. When presented by God, the opportunity to make any request, and He would grant it, Solomon surprisingly asked for wisdom. A more accurate description of Solomon’s request was, “Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad:” (vs. 9a). Solomon could have asked for money, fame, slaughter of his enemies, or anything else, and God would have granted it, but his heart was set on doing the work of the Lord, so his desires were in line with God’s will. God was pleased with Solomon’s request, and granted him the wisdom he desired, but also added riches, honor, fame, and conditional long life (if he walked in the ways of the Lord, and kept His statutes and commandments as David did).

If God asked you to make a request for anything, what would it be? Be honest. Would you ask for those things money can’t buy like wisdom, understanding, favor, or knowledge, or would you be so consumed in life’s affairs, until you’d seek pleasures of this would, that eventually fade away? I’ll be honest, I’d consider asking God for super powers like the ability to fly, breath under water, ability to touch people and instantly heal them, or X-ray vision (so I can see who’s responsible for always holding up the elevators at work…gets me so ANGRY!!!), but after pondering for a moment, I’d probably ask for something with a bit more spiritual significance, as Solomon did.

Seek to be wise in God’s eyes, and consider those things that are relevant to His will. As you plan and prepare for your daily duties, acknowledge God in all your ways, and He’ll guide you on the path of success. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. (Proverbs 4:7)
